WHAT SHOULD I HAVE ALREADY DONE?

Y9 and Y10 Science

Year 11 Science (SCI)

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • To engage critically with ideas in popular media, evaluate information sources, make evidence-based decisions, identify patterns in data, and understand the evolving nature of scientific thinking and methods.

  • To use various tools such as models, equations, diagrams, and representations to convey abstract concepts, interpret data through tables and graphs, critique data and understand what is valid or reliable, and gain knowledge of the vocabulary, symbols, and conventions of the different Science strands.

  • To explore humans’ interconnectedness with the environment and living things, consider different ways of thinking and generating knowledge, recognise the collaborative nature of Science, engage in collaborative Science activities and communicate relevant information effectively.

  • To develop self-efficacy and confidence in seeking scientific evidence, using systematic problem-solving strategies, articulating and supporting own perspectives, provide constructive critiques of one's own and others' work, develop time management and organisational skills in independent and team contexts.

  • To apply understanding of environmental interrelationships (kaitiakitanga), comprehend public issues through Science knowledge, use data to reach conclusions that can influence others about particular changes, such as space travel or climate change.
