WHAT WILL I LEARN?

How to use Mathematics to solve problems in context

Skills in logic, reasoning, communication, modelling and critical evaluation

  • Statistics

  • Probability and simulations

  • Trigonometry 

  • Co-ordinate geometry

  • Systems of equations


HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED?

6 Level 2 Achievement Standards – 16 credits

5 internally assessed Achievement Standards make up 12 credits

1 externally assessed Achievement Standard worth 4 credits

Recommended Prior Learning

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE ALREADY DONE?

Level 1 Mathematics with at least 12 credits from Achievement Standards, including Achievement in the school Algebra exam or 1.3 or 1.4.

This is a guideline only and final decisions will be made in consultation with staff.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

WHAT ARE THE COURSE COSTS?
A workbook will be provided as a text book, but must be returned in excellent condition at the end of the year (students may opt to purchase a copy if they wish to write in it. It will be available from Hawke’s Bay Office Products at an approximate cost of $8).
A Graphic Calculator is a huge advantage in this course and if your daughter does not already have one of these, they can be purchased from Hawke’s Bay Office Products at an approximate cost of $180.
