Year 11 Science Alternative (SCA)
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The learning will start within the context of developing and maintaining a vegetable garden, growing and harvesting a range of vegetables.The context will expand and develop to include other everyday life activities to cover other aspects of Science.
To explore how humans are connected to, and dependent, on the environment and all living things.
To explore relationships in the environment (kaitiakitanga), and understand how public issues relate to these.
To develop scientific literacy to make evidence-based decisions.
To identify patterns in information and use scientific thinking.
To use scientific vocabulary, symbols, and conventions.
To be involved in collaborative activities in Science and to communicate scientific information.

10 to 11 credits

WHAT ARE THE COURSE COSTS?
Workbooks will be provided as a textbook, but must be returned in excellent condition at the end of the year. Students may opt to purchase copies of the workbooks if they wish to write in them. The approximate costs for the workbooks are:

The purchase of these texts also entitles students to free access to Scipad online which provides additional notes, videos, questions and interactive activities.
